APSSB STENOGRAPHY SKILL TEST


1. Skill Test Norms (Stenography) as per Recruitment Rule:

A. Dictation: 5 minutes @80 words per minute.

B. Transcription: 45 minutes (English) on a computer with an average of 5 key depressions for each word.

C. Permissible Mistakes: 8% allowed in transcription.


2. Stenography Proficiency Test:

A. Duration: 5 minutes @80 words per minute.

B. Passage: Trial passage and test passage dictated twice with a one-minute interval.

C. Minimum Transcribed Words: Candidates must transcribe a minimum of 368 correct words out of 400.

D. Qualifying Marks: Minimum qualifying marks for the stenography proficiency test is 40.


3. Type of Mistakes:

A. Omission of word/figure.

B. Substitution of a wrong word/figure.

C. Addition of a word/figure not found in the passage.


4. Disqualification Criteria:

A. Total mistakes exceeding 32 words.

B. Total correct words less than 368.


5. Scoring System:

A. 40 marks for minimum correct transcribed words.

B. Additional 2 marks for each extra correct transcribed word, up to a maximum of 100 marks.


6. Reporting Process:

A. After completing the test, candidates should take a printout of the transcribed passage.

B. Handover the shorthand paper and passage printout to the invigilator after signing them.


7. Materials Provided:

A. The Board will provide dictation pads and pencils/pens for every candidate.

B. Candidates are not allowed to bring their pads, pencils, or pens.
